WELCOME

Every week my husband and I try a new breakfast spot in Calgary. I'd love to share the experience with you. I'll include where we went, what we ate, what we thought of the restaurant and a link if you're interested in trying them out!

Reading is a passion of mine and in the past, I've shared some of my favourite reads. My reading interests have changed over the years and although I still enjoy a good self-help book, fiction is a solid second.

There you have it! Two of my favourite things, eating out and reading!

This Is Not the Story You Think It Is....A Season of Unlikely Happiness.  This is more than a summer read.  This is a spiritual journey through the painful and personal experience of Laura Munson beginning when her husband announces that "he isn't sure he loves me anymore...and nine hours later he still hasn't come back."

Laura struggles with wanting to accept her husbands uncertainty about their marriage with the skill and compassion of Pema Choron and the clarity and non-attachment of Buddha and conversely to shout ultimatums and induce guilt as a lethal weapon. She is forty years old, an unpublished writer and has spent a lifetime reading Rumi, Meister Eckhart, Thich Nhat Hanh, Richard Bach, Wayne Dyer, Miguel Ruiz, Melanie Beattie and so on.

Laura decides that her pain does not have to become her suffering and challenges herself to open her heart rather than closing and to take each day as a gift.  As days turn into weeks and weeks into months and her husband does not return to the marriage, Laura meets herself and the crossroads of staying open to each event as it unfolds and the fear that wants to shut her down.

This book is a great guidepost for anyone struggling with change.  One great summer read AND a lesson in putting "knowledge"into action!!
